How To Choose The Best Job

“Those numbers sound good for now.” “However, if another company offers more, I will probably take the other offer.”

I just had this conversation today with a younger engineer. He was laid off from a FAANG company.

I get it. We all need to financially support ourselves and families. You have to do what is best for you.

However, I don’t believe compensation should be the main driver. The previous company paid really well. That same company just cut over 18,000 people.

💡Think about the current economy.

💡Think about the business model of the company you are pursuing and see if it can survive these tough times.

💡Think about the personal and professional growth you can acquire with the company.

💡Think about the culture of the company and its core values.

💡Think about the team you will join. Will they make you better?

And yes, think about compensation. It’s important. But, don’t base your entire decision off of it.

I see a lot of young engineers do this and I try to offer some friendly advice every time.
